A PRIVATE ARTWORK BUILT BY JAMES TURRELL
Driving through the wilderness of the Highland, walking through the muddy path, crossing the woods, there I could see Turrell James’ artwork standing in between. This piece was privately created by Turrell for the landowner, reminding me of ‘Space That Sees’ which built in 1992. There were 36 grooves on the ground inside the building, the circle in the middle was right facing the opening on the roof, and viewers could see a piece of sky when looking up. In this work, the artist’s directional hints were placed everywhere, with the intention of enticing audiences to come in and appreciate the designed scenery.
People look up at the sky, the clouds pass by, the light and shadow change, the whole space is suddenly filled with religious implication, and regardless of personal beliefs, people can really feel the elapsed and staying between moment and eternity.
